Principles & Mission

While AgeilityFit has continued to grow, the motivation and premise have not changed. Our motto, ‘Making Healthy Happen’ is a short reminder of our mission to bring fitness and health to older adults.

AgeiltyFit’s mission is to:

  • Provide easy and affordable access to fitness services for older adults both in-person and online. We always ensure a fun and safe environment where everyone feels welcome and able to participate to the best of their abilities.
  • Age is never a barrier. All abilities and capabilities are welcomed and catered for in every session.
  • We ensure everyone is entitled to the same opportunity to move better, be fitter and lead a happier, healthier life.

With this mission statement behind every class and workout we ensure our members and clients receive exercises, workouts and classes that are appropriate for them and to work towards being a better version of themselves.

David Lawson

Certificate III and IV in fitness

I have trained for several years, and fitness has been a series of ups and downs in terms of fitness and weight. After seeing myself in a very overweight photo in 2014, I started on a fitness transformation to improve his health. With a new found passion for fitness, I took the steps in 2015 to complete my Certificate III and IV in fitness.

With a determined approach to apply myself during these studies and made a career of the new skills, which found me nominated in the top 5 students for 2015 in the Fitness Australia Awards.

The road forward in the fitness industry has continued to grow and I have continued my studies to add to my skill base to help our clients as much as possible. Additionally, I have added Lungs in Action training from Lungs Australia, Mental Health Fist Aid and Rehab Trainer courses over the years to expand the knowledge and skills to help AgeilityFit members and clients.

Justine Lawson

Certificate III and IV in fitness

Zumba Basic 1 and Zumba Gold

As a Teacher’s Aide at Tamborine State School, Justine has a long career with helping to teach a number of students with different abilities and needs to help them achieve and feel confident. This dedication to the role has seen Justine achieve the Head Teacher’s Aid position and be an invaluable member of the teaching staff.

Justine has also had a long passion for exercising and looking after her health like many people. Justine took this passion further and completed her Certificate III and IV in fitness in 2019. Recently Justine has added to her skill base with Zumba Basic 1 and Zumba Gold training. With these new qualifications has combined her passion for movement and music with her skills for teaching to create a unique style to help people move better and have fun while exercising.

Our History

AgeilityFit Pty Ltd (AgeilityFit) began from a small idea but with great intentions and goals. In 2015 we began from a council submission to bring fitness services to older adults on Mount Tamborine. The idea was based on the premise that anyone could benefit from exercise and more importantly older adults had the most to gain from better movement, better fitness and a better quality of life.

While engaging in practical work during Certificate III fitness training, David undertook some volunteering with a Lift for Life group in Nerang. The benefits to the participants were immense; strength increase, mental health improved, pain reduced and people just felt better and happier.

This approach was borrowed and developed into a Growing Stronger program to bring older adults into a gym. This was to be a 12-week trial, however it continued well past that initial time and quickly grew from one class a week to four. Once again participants saw the benefits of exercise on improving their mobility, strength, balance, fitness and overall health. The community created continues to this day with groups still meeting together to chat and connect.

As the gym based program continued, group fitness classes were launched under the MatureFit banner on the Gold Coast. A single class in Pacific Pines started to get locals moving and connect with others that wanted to do more and feel better. Friends brought friends and the class grew both in numbers and locations. Additional classes have been added to Helensvale, Hope Island, Upper Coomera, Nerang, Southport, Pimpama and Ormeau.

As the MatureFit classes grew, the need for a more active version became apparent quite quickly. While participants may be the same age as others, abilities and capabilities varied significantly. Many older adults wanted more of a challenge and with that FiftyPlusFit was launched. This active group fitness class launched in Helensvale, Pacific Pines and Upper Coomera. In just six years AgeilityFit has grown from that single class and one trainer to fifteen classes every week and two trainers.

Your Zoom classes have enabled us to (more-or-less) have a daily workout on Mon-Fri, which is something we have never, ever managed to achieve before.

Also, because it is ‘at home’, there is no travelling time, so it’s easier to fit in with other commitments.

We very much appreciate everything that you have both done over these last months, firstly to master the Zoom techno-system and then to keep going when your face-to-face classes started up again in the Northern Gold Coast.

I joined Justine and David’s classes through the Gold Coast Active & Healthy program and found their exercise routines were perfect for seniors, very professionally run and fun. The effort they have made to move their classes on line though Zoom has been fantastic and greatly appreciated.

John and I both in our 80”s joined the classes with David quite a while ago to challenge ourselves to keep as fit as we could.

Attending with our two near neighbours, joining was easy and we encouraged each other.

From day one Davids, welcome, his personal care for each of us and the way the classes are presented have been first class. So enjoyable and so beneficial. Our overall fitness and well being have improved greatly, the classes are so well supported and the group works together very well, the music is pretty good too.
No two classes are the same and we benefit from the structured exercises which increase as time goes on. David is always aware of any difficulties, physical or mental, especially John who is sadly suffering severe memory loss and ability to balance.
There are so few groups so well constructed for us oldies and I would recommend this friendly group to anyone seeking to improve fitness and have fun too.

I think I’m pretty active for my age my passion is my garden which gives one a great work out ???? ????

I’m also a hands on Nana to 5 grandchildren that keep me on my toes.

I have a home gym but sometimes we just need to get that outside motivation… which I have found with Ageilityfit… David is my go to for motivation & encouragement without judgement… I love my classes not only for the wonderful workouts we get ( these can be done at your own pace standing or sitting whatever suits you????)
But also the wonderful people I have got to know…. sometimes it’s nice to just take that time out for yourself & to share with people your own age ❤️
